Frequently asked
I've never played before. Can I still join?
Yes. The band was founded in 1997 by parents learning from scratch, and beginners are still at the heart of it. We'll help you find your feet. Mention any beginner tuition here.
I already play in another band. Is that a problem?
You're welcome to come and play. Because we now contest, a player can only be registered with one band for contests, so have a chat with us about registration if you'd like to play at contests too.
Do I have to play at contests?
Confirm the band’s approach — e.g. contests are optional and there’s plenty to enjoy without them.
Do I need to read music?
It helps, but you can learn as you go. Players around you will help.
Is there an age limit?
Our players currently range from 13 to over 80. Confirm minimum age, and how under-18s join (e.g. parent/guardian contact, safeguarding). Younger players may also enjoy the Wardle Academy bands.
Do I have to perform at concerts?
Only if you want to. Most people find they do once they've settled in!
